.Microbiology with Diseases by Taxonomy, 4th Edition. DescriptionThe Fourth Edition of Microbiology with Diseases by Taxonomy is the most cutting-edge microbiology book available, offering unparalleled currency, accuracy, and assessment. The state-of-the-art approach includes 18 new Video Tutors written and developed by the author to walk students through key microbiology concepts, bringing the textbook to life. QR codes in the textbook enable students to use their smartphone or tablet to instantly interact with these step-by-step tutorials and visualize important concepts and processes.

Compelling clinical case studies and emerging disease case studies give students opportunities to apply new knowledge and explore real-world microbiology. Student comprehension is ensured with end-of-chapter practice that encompasses both visual and conceptual understanding. This edition retains the hallmark art program and clear writing style that have made Dr. Bauman’s book an engaging and successful introductory text. In this revision, both students and instructors benefit from the additional robust tutorial and assessment content in the unrivaled MasteringMicrobiology ® program, including the author’s new Video Tutors!

Organization and Currency. The taxonomic organization of the disease chapters (Chapters 19—25) presents microbial diseases by type of pathogenic microbe, helping students recognize shared characteristics among categories of microbes. Chapter 3 ( Cell Structure and Function) de-emphasizes the term ”prokaryote” (a term that is based on an outdated perception of taxonomy and is thus misleading to students) and instead emphasizes the three domains of living organisms, matching the latest taxonomic research. 18 Video Tutors by Dr. Bauman appear in the Fourth Edition. These author-developed and narrated videos walk students through key concepts in microbiology, bringing the textbook art to life and helping students visualize and understand tough topics and important processes.

These video tutorials are accompanied by multiple-choice questions, which are assignable in MasteringMicrobiology ®. NEW! Numbered Learning Outcomes (previously Learning Objectives) are used to tag Test Bank questions and all Mastering assets. In addition to being tagged to Learning Outcomes, all Mastering assets are tagged to the Global Science Learning Outcomes and Bloom’s Taxonomy. The complete Mastering Test Bank is also tagged to ASMCUE recommended outcomes.
